What are the best learning toys for babies?

I have a 2 month old baby. There are so many learning toys out there that I would like to know which are the best for him.

A good playmat is a wonderful thing. There are a lot of them out there.
Books are always a good idea. You will love it when he gets a little older and starts to look at the pictures with you.
There are two things that my son has that he loves and they are great learning toys for him as well.
The first is penguin bowling. Each penguin has a number. Right now at 6 months old, we just call the penguin by the number and he uses them as stuffed animals.
